Hear their stories

For Troy, building a home was never just about creating a place to live. It was about designing a lifestyle that felt deeply connected to the landscape around it.

Surrounded by birds, towering trees and water, he envisioned a home where nature was always part of the experience. Having built before, Troy chose Rural Building Co once again to bring that vision to life. Working closely with New Home Consultant Brooke Leber, every detail was carefully considered, from the exposed timber beams and heated polished concrete floors to the feature fireplace, creating a home that feels warm, timeless and connected to its surroundings.

Recognised with the 2026 HIA Project Home of the Year award, this home reflects thoughtful design, sustainable living, and a genuine connection to the environment. More than an award-winning home, it’s a peaceful retreat where the beauty of the outdoors is woven into everyday life.

When they built their new home in Pemberton, Arthur and Melissa aspired to a home that aligned with how they relax, how they entertain, and how they enjoy each other’s company.

The couple are delighted the with the end result, and are grateful to The Rural Building Co. for bringing their dream to reality.

“They were friendly, kind and very supportive. I couldn’t ask for more,” Arthur says. “Would we do it again? Without a doubt.”

When asked what they enjoy about their new home, Arthur and Melissa explain that it’s a peaceful retreat in an idyllic part of the world.

“We wanted our home to be a place of tranquility,” Melissa says.

“We still wake up every morning and say this is fantastic,” Arthur adds. “You come to an environment like this, and you recognise that there’s so much more to life.”

Seeking a lifestyle immersed in nature, Darren and Michelle chose Parkerville, where they embraced a tree change that transformed their everyday.

Their vision for a life immersed in nature came alive with double balconies that seamlessly extend their living space into the treetops. Darren shared how effortless this dream became, thanks to an immediate connection with their designer. Their home is more than just a house; it’s a sanctuary bathed in natural light and wonderfully energy-efficient, yet it’s the surrounding embrace of nature—the land and its wild inhabitants—that truly defines their lifestyle.

This was paramount for them, and they tell us they absolutely love every moment of their new, nature-infused life.

Why Build In Mira Mar

Mira Mar is an inner north-eastern suburb of Albany, two kilometres from the city centre, and was gazetted in 1979. It covers 1.5 square kilometres and about 1,890 people live here, so it is a small, settled pocket rather than a growth area. Strawberry Hill rises to 62 metres and Craggy Bluff sits alongside it. The boundaries are North and Collingwood Roads, Drew Street, Symers Street and Middleton Road.

There is almost no vacant land left in Mira Mar, so most projects here are a knockdown and rebuild: taking down an older house and building the home you actually want on a block and a street you have already chosen. Many of the lots are elevated or steep, which changes your siteworks, the work to prepare the block before the build starts. On an established lot, access for the build matters as much as the plan.

Strawberry Hill at Barmup, on Middleton Road, is the site of the first farm in Western Australia, started as a Government Farm in 1827. We understand that rebuilding where you already live is a big call, so we begin with a full site assessment and a transparent quote.

Wherever you build in Mira Mar, the Rural Building Co. team works out of Albany, just minutes from your street. Every design we create reflects you, your block and the way you want to live.

Display Homes near Mira Mar

Our two open display homes are both north of Albany, and both are worth the trip before you commit. The Yalyalup Retreat, at 83 Joseph Drive, Yalyalup, is the one to see for natural textures, considered detailing and the way inside and outside meet. The Darlington, at 81 Darlington Road, Darlington, shows our farmhouse style at full scale.

Each display gives a clear sense of how our designs handle slope, site orientation and local materials. If you are rebuilding in Mira Mar, walking through one is the quickest way to decide what you want.

Frequently Asked Questions about Building in Mira Mar

Can you knock down and rebuild on an established Mira Mar block?

Yes, and it is the most common way to build here. Mira Mar covers 1.5 square kilometres with about 1,890 residents and is essentially fully built, so vacant land is rare and most new homes replace an older one. We work with the block you have, its slope and its outlook, and design the new home around what the site can actually give you. Demolition, which is the removal of the old house, and siteworks, the work to prepare the block, are both quoted up front, after a full site assessment and before you commit to anything.
