Hear their stories

For Troy, building a home was never just about creating a place to live. It was about designing a lifestyle that felt deeply connected to the landscape around it.

Surrounded by birds, towering trees and water, he envisioned a home where nature was always part of the experience. Having built before, Troy chose Rural Building Co once again to bring that vision to life. Working closely with New Home Consultant Brooke Leber, every detail was carefully considered, from the exposed timber beams and heated polished concrete floors to the feature fireplace, creating a home that feels warm, timeless and connected to its surroundings.

Recognised with the 2026 HIA Project Home of the Year award, this home reflects thoughtful design, sustainable living, and a genuine connection to the environment. More than an award-winning home, it’s a peaceful retreat where the beauty of the outdoors is woven into everyday life.

When they built their new home in Pemberton, Arthur and Melissa aspired to a home that aligned with how they relax, how they entertain, and how they enjoy each other’s company.

The couple are delighted the with the end result, and are grateful to The Rural Building Co. for bringing their dream to reality.

“They were friendly, kind and very supportive. I couldn’t ask for more,” Arthur says. “Would we do it again? Without a doubt.”

When asked what they enjoy about their new home, Arthur and Melissa explain that it’s a peaceful retreat in an idyllic part of the world.

“We wanted our home to be a place of tranquility,” Melissa says.

“We still wake up every morning and say this is fantastic,” Arthur adds. “You come to an environment like this, and you recognise that there’s so much more to life.”

Seeking a lifestyle immersed in nature, Darren and Michelle chose Parkerville, where they embraced a tree change that transformed their everyday.

Their vision for a life immersed in nature came alive with double balconies that seamlessly extend their living space into the treetops. Darren shared how effortless this dream became, thanks to an immediate connection with their designer. Their home is more than just a house; it’s a sanctuary bathed in natural light and wonderfully energy-efficient, yet it’s the surrounding embrace of nature—the land and its wild inhabitants—that truly defines their lifestyle.

This was paramount for them, and they tell us they absolutely love every moment of their new, nature-infused life.

Why Build In Manjimup

Manjimup sits 307 kilometres south of Perth in the South West, with 4,279 people at the 2021 Census. It is the regional centre for a shire of 7,027 square kilometres and 9,093 residents, so a family gets a main street, a hospital and Manjimup Senior High School on Rutherford Street without leaving town. The Pink Lady apple was created here in 1973.

Blocks come in two shapes. There are serviced lots in and around the townsite, and there are the orchard, dairy and plantation holdings spread across the shire, where acreage and working-farm land dominates by area. On the town edges the blocks are treed. Access, distance from services and siteworks, the work to prepare your block before the build starts, all connect back to that choice, so it pays to plan this early.

Our designs are drawn for both types of block. A farmhouse form with wide verandahs for an open paddock, a tighter plan for a townsite lot, and living areas that hold the northern sun through winter. Whether it is a family home or the main house on a working block, we build for your land.

Deanmill and Jardee

Deanmill and Jardee are small settlements immediately around the Manjimup townsite, close enough that the town’s school, hospital and main street are a short drive away.

Lots here are modest and largely cleared, so a compact farmhouse plan works well for most families. The Kingston or The Evolution Farmhouse both suit a level site of this size.

Palgarup and Dingup

Palgarup and Dingup are rural localities in the Shire of Manjimup, part of the farmland, orchard and dairy country that makes up most of the shire’s 7,027 square kilometres.

This is paddock-scale land, so the house usually sits well back from the road with sheds and stock of its own. The Country House or The Argyle are drawn for exactly that kind of open site.

Perup

Perup is one of the shire’s bush localities, where the block usually comes treed and the outlook is canopy rather than paddock.

Treed land limits how much you can clear, which shapes both the footprint and the access track. The Forest View or The Bushland Retreat are drawn for blocks where the trees stay.

Northcliffe

Northcliffe is a separate locality in the Shire of Manjimup with rural land around it, and it has a page of its own on our site if your block is out that way.

It is far enough out that access and delivery matter to your build cost, so raise them at your site assessment. The Hinterland Retreat suits a large holding, The Forest View a treed one.

Pemberton

Pemberton is the other main town in the Shire of Manjimup, a smaller settlement with its own page on our site if that is where you are looking.

Blocks there are tighter and more heavily treed than Manjimup’s farm country. The Karridale Retreat or The Bushland Retreat suit those sites better than a wide farmhouse plan.

Bridgetown

North of Manjimup on the Blackwood River, Bridgetown is the other service town in the Warren Blackwood, the part of the South West made up of the Bridgetown-Greenbushes, Manjimup, Nannup and Boyup Brook shires.

Blocks there are rarely flat, so slope is the first thing we look at. The Valley View or The Marri View suit ground that falls away toward the river.

The first step is a free site assessment on your block, so we see the ground before we draw anything. From there we shape a home with you that is authentic, natural and deeply connected to the land and lifestyle that make the Warren Blackwood and the South West so special.

Display Homes near Manjimup

Manjimup’s orchard and farm blocks are easier to plan once you have walked through a finished home. The closest is The Yalyalup Retreat display home at Yalyalup near Busselton. It shows how we handle natural textures, considered detailing and the connection between inside and out. The Darlington display, in the Perth Hills, is our farmhouse-inspired design language at full scale.

Both show how our designs handle orientation, open ground and the way a house meets a paddock. Seeing one helps you picture how a Rural Building Co. home would sit on a townsite lot or a working block around Manjimup.

Frequently Asked Questions about Building in Manjimup

How much does it cost to build a home in Manjimup?

The cost of building in Manjimup depends on your design, your block and the siteworks it needs, meaning the work to prepare the block before the build starts. The big variable here is which kind of block you buy. A serviced lot in the townsite behaves very differently to an orchard, dairy or plantation holding out in the shire, where access, services and distance all add up. We start with a free site assessment and give you a detailed, transparent quote with no hidden costs before you commit.

Which areas around Manjimup does The Rural Building Co. build in?

We build right across Manjimup and the Warren Blackwood, including Deanmill, Jardee, Palgarup, Dingup, Perup, Northcliffe and Pemberton, and north to Bridgetown. As a true country builder whose people live in regional WA, we design for the farm blocks, the townsite lots and the treed land on the town edges that make up this part of the South West.

Can you build on a farm block or acreage near Manjimup?

Yes. Acreage and working-farm blocks make up most of the Shire of Manjimup by area, and we design homes for exactly these sites. On a holding this size, access is what drives both delivery and siteworks, so we look at your track, your orientation and where the sheds and stock sit before we design. Your home then works with the block rather than against it.
