Torbay Home Builders
Why families building in Torbay choose Rural Building Co.:
Shipbuilders worked the Torbay coast from the 1830s, and it still sets the terms. Salt wind off Tor Bay, granite ground, paddocks that run down to the water. We understand what that takes. The Rural Building Co. has been creating homes across regional Western Australia since 1992, from Kalbarri in the north to Albany in the south. As an award-winning WA builder, proudly built by WA Country Builders (BC11422), we design for people who value craftsmanship, authenticity, and a deeper connection to the land.

Why Build In Torbay
Torbay takes its name from Tor Bay, which Matthew Flinders named in 1801. Torbay Inlet sits between Torbay Head and Stony Island, with Migo, Richard and Shelter islands offshore, and the City of Albany runs two nature-based campgrounds along this stretch of coast. It is a working coastline rather than a resort one, and that is the whole appeal.
Behind the dunes this is farming country. Horticulture in the locality grows about half of Western Australia’s seed potato requirement, alongside dairy, beef cattle and plantation forestry, and there is still a seasonal herring and salmon fishery from February to April. Blocks come as farmland and larger acreage on the potato and dairy ground, treed and granite-strewn bush on the higher land, and coastal sites set back behind the dunes near Torbay Inlet.
There is no shop, no pub and no public school in the locality, so daily life runs on Albany, about 25 kilometres east. Woodbury Boston Primary School, an independent kindergarten to Year 6 school at Torbay Hill, has been going since 1980 and takes a nature-based approach to learning.
Your nearest Rural Building Co. team is at our Albany office on Stirling Terrace, a little over 20 minutes east of Torbay. Close enough to meet you on the block, walk the site before you commit and stay with you through the build. Come in and say hello.
