What is the tree change?
A ‘tree change’ is a term used to describe the move from city living to a more rural/country setting.
Those looking to leave the hustle and bustle of the city often find them selves packing up their homes and buying or building a house in the outer suburbs.
A tree change doesn’t necessarily mean moving hours out of the city. It can be a smaller move, just 30 – 40km depending on what you’re looking for.
Why make the move?
You may be asking yourself – why should I make the move?
Living in the city is full of excitement and energy. There is always something happening and it can feel like the city never sleeps. A tree change takes you away from the fast city pace and introduces a more relaxed lifestyle.
You escape the high-rise buildings, man made parks and waking up to the sounds of traffic, to a more natural setting like waking up to the sounds of the birds.
You will learn to appreciate the natural environment, develop close relationships with others in your local community and embrace the country/rural lifestyle.
What are the benefits?
Making the tree change is a big decision. A move to the country could lead to you changing your job, moving away from friends and family and changing schools for your children, however these changes are worth it if you’re looking for more space.
Do you have a growing family looking for additional room? Do you want to live an active lifestyle? Do you want to live a greener lifestyle and produce your own veggies? Or maybe you’ve always wanted a big dog and dreaming of a large backyard?
At the end of the day it all comes down to your personal property dreams and lifestyle needs.
When you think of your future what do you see? What things in your current life can your compromise on and where does your heart lie?
What to look for when making a tree change?
Before you list your house for sale, here are some things you should look for:
- Transport – Is there public transport? Is there an airport nearby?
- Communications – Is there mobile phone reception? Is there Internet connectivity?
- Local amenities – Is there a school nearby? Is there a chemist, supermarket, and hospital nearby?
- Security – Is there neighbourhood watch? Is there a police station?
- Social compatibility – Will you fit in?
