Staff Profiles

Management

Jay Walter - General Manager

From a young age, Jay has always had an interest in the building industry; growing up with J-Corp and the JWH Group, a passion for the industry was easily developed. Having undertaken a double degree of Commerce and Behavioral Science at Notre Dame, Jay graduated in 2006 working at Midland Brick for 6 months before traveling overseas and backpacking for 4 months with his girlfriend. After seeing the world and taking in the sights, Jay worked at Plunkett Homes in a Business Development role before taking on the role at the Rural Building Company. Apart from the building industry, Jay has a passion for cars and anything on the water.

Rosemary Costen - New Homes Administrator

Rosemary is one of the original staff members of the Rural Building Company, and has been involved in the building industry since 1994. Rosemary derives enormous amounts of pleasure in assisting people with helping bring their new home aspirations into reality. Rosemary has looked after her three children by herself over the last 10 years through their teen years. While very much a family person, she enjoys socialising, dancing and dining out.

Michael Brackenreg - Construction Manager

What started as a Plumbing Apprenticeship has since turned into 33 years in the building industry for Michael. In that time Michael has supervised Commercial sites, residential homes and owned and run his own building company. Michael has been with the JWH Group for 5 years, spending 4 of them at Oswald Homes as a Construction Supervisor where he was able to build some unbelievable homes. Always keen for a laugh when with people, Michael can often be seen racing out to site to see the latest progress and catching up with supervisors and trades to answer any queries they may have. A keen golfer, when Mike isn’t on the green he enjoys spending time with his wife Eda, bike riding, walking on the beach with the family dog or spending time with friends and enjoying a bottle of wine or two.

Adrian Hughes - Construction Administration Manager

With 14 years experience in the building industry, Adrian certainly has extensive knowledge and experience with building. A long time employee of the JWH Group, Adrian has been a Scheduler, Estimator, Supervisor and Registered Builder before becoming Construction Manager for Administration within The Rural Building Company. A dedicated and hard worker, this extends to his family life with Adrian being a devoted family man who loves spending time with his wife and daughter. Between work and family Adrian enjoys music with a vast collection from different artists as well as owning a number of instruments, and also has a passion for classic cars, having previously owned a Mustang. The people and product are what Adrian loves most about The Rural Building Company – both being a good mix and not exactly what you’d come across every day which are a good point of difference.

Sales Consultants

Lee Stothard - New Home Sales Consultant

Don’t let his laid back and calm attitude fool you, Lee is one man keeping himself busy and surrounding himself with what he loves. Originally from sunny Yorkshire England, Lee has been working within the building industry for over 10 years within home improvements and more recently selling new homes.

Married with who he describes as ‘three great kids’, between running them from basketball to swimming, footy, netball and school Lee has time for other passions in life. Mention cycling, basketball and football (we call it soccer over here!) and we guarantee you’ll have his attention. When asked about his role, Lee loves meeting new people and helping them turn their dream into their new home. His favourite home is the Settlers View and defines it as a great example of what The Rural Building Company can do.

Gaynor Armstrong - New Home Sales Consultant

As a member of the JWH Group for 15 years, Gaynor previously worked in the South-West at WA Country Builders as South-West Sales & Marketing Manager. Moving to Perth she became a New Homes Consultant for Residential Attitudes for 4 years where she then came across to The Rural Building Company as a New Homes Consultant. Gaynor has now been with The Rural Building Company for over a year, developing strong ties with clients and providing high customer service to assist with building a new home.

When asked what Gaynor loves to do outside of work, her response was quite simple: ‘dining out, shopping, reading, shopping, holidays and shopping’. With a bit of a trend there, you’ll be quick to learn that Gaynor is our fashion guru in the office and enjoys getting over to Melbourne with husband Brad to partake in a bit of retail therapy. Also into her fitness, Gaynor is currently in training for a half marathon in May and a full marathon in October.

Daniel Bruyninckx

Daniel Bruyninckx - New Home Consultant

Being no stranger to the building industry, Daniel has lived and breathed the rural style, design and lifestyle since 1997 when he joined Ross Squire homes. Specialising in framed homes and brick veneer construction for all areas of WA including cyclonic and seismic areas, Daniel joined The Rural Building Company in 2002 as Senior Draftsman.

You don't need to spend much time with Daniel talking homes to realise how much he loves the homes we build, and the industry as a whole. He's quick to comment how rewarding it is to help people design their dream home starting with the initial design concept, to working drawings and finally seeing their dream home completed. His personal favourite is the Meridian – the slick looking curved roof design is a real soft spot.

If it's not homes and spending time with his wife Tash, it has to be cars. In his spare time you'll find him tinkering in his shed on a Mazda RX-7 project or down at the track with mates whether it be spectating, participating or helping. Somewhere between all of this time must always be made to plan the next overseas trip, the biggest problem he see's is too many places, not enough time.

Adrian Mettam

Adrian Mettam - New Home Consultant

Joining the industry in 1991, Adrian fell in love with the home building industry and in particular, The Rural Building Company designs. The Dadifferent people you meet, and the different needs and wants for a person's family home keep it interesting – you never know what sort of home you'll be working with next. The Durack is a personal favourite as it is a well priced design that works brilliantly with few changes required.

Although Adrian has worked with The Rural Building Company for a number of years, he recently took some time off to tour around Australia in his tricked up Navara and Ultimate Camper trailer attached. River crossings, dusty roads and sunset beaches are what it’s all about and definitely tie in well with the rural lifestyle. When he's not on holidays, you'll find Adrian involved with Motorcycle road racing, having previously been President of the club the passion for the sport is still strong.

From the moment you sit down with Adrian, there's something instantly calming about him as his laid back aura takes over and the conversation feels more like a chat amongst mates than a meeting of some sorts.

Construction Supervisors

Chris Holder - Construction Supervisor

You’ll be hard pressed to find a bad thing said about Chris Holder, a man with real passion for what he does and takes absolute pride in his work; Chris has lived in Yanchep for 17 years and looks after the area he builds in. Chris has been with The Rural Building Company for two years and is currently completing his Certificate IV in Building Supervision with a background in roof carpentry and is a qualified fitter and turner. A devoted family man, Chris helps out in his spare time with his daughter’s basketball team and is a supporter and member of the Yanchep Redhawks Cricket Club.

Steve Ierino - Construction Supervisor

Previously involved in project management Steve also has a background in fixing carpentry and cabinet making. Since joining The Rural Building Company in 2007 Steve has completed his Diploma of Builders Registration and currently supervises our southern corridor. Like his brother Robert (who also works for The Rural Building Company), Steve is also an avid West Coast Eagles fan and can be spotted at Subi oval in the stands cheering them on. When he’s not at work or watching the footy Steve loves spending time with his family and having a tinker in the workshop.

Richard Cook - Construction Supervisor

Richard is an HIA accredited supervisor and has a background in carpentry/ joinery. He has been with The Rural Building Company for nearly 6 years, spending his first 2 years in The Rural Building Company office as a Scheduler until he became a supervisor. Mostly supervising in the hills around Darlington, Stoneville, Glen Forest and Mundaring, when Richard isn’t supervising and driving between jobs he enjoys time out with his young family and exploring the state in his camper van.

Mike Merrin - Construction Supervisor

A registered builder with a carpentry background, Mike has 36 years experience in the building industry and has been with The Rural Building Company for 4 of them. Mike lives and breathes this industry and at the end of the day ‘just wants to build homes’. Looking after the north eastern corridor covering Chittering, Bindoon, Bullsbrook and Gingin, when Mike isn’t building homes or driving between his jobs at site, he can be found fishing off Two Rocks in a boat with his mate, though you’ll struggle to get him to divulge his favourite fishing spots.
