Our Attitude
Environmentally responsible housing
Some may have seen the documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” by Al Gore, but all should have seen the exposure to global warming on the political agenda. It is within everybody’s capability to help save this planet we call home. For our children and our children’s children. Global warming is a fact.

At Rural Building Company we have always believed in the need to provide environmentally responsible housing. As an HIA Regional GreenSmart partner we champion the philosophies of providing housing that contributes to Australia’s endeavours to reduce CO2 emissions. The GreenSmart initiatives not only cover design principles, they also work by reducing energy and water usage, and by embracing thermal management. All of our frontline staff are GreenSmart accredited so that we can assist you in planning your home to be environmentally responsible.

Building materials and construction methods
Over the years we have designed and built a wide range of homes that use an equally wide range of materials and construction methods. Our attitude to construction is to provide the right response to the environment, dependent on topography, soil conditions and location. Our choices could be clay brick on coastal sandy conditions to create strong thermal characteristics; reverse brick veneer for aesthetics and the ultimate in energy efficiency; integrated construction using corrugated metal, weatherboards for elegance in design and technically correct construction for clay soils; or poles and stumped housing to allow the home to conform to steep sites without causing degradation. We’ll mix, match and integrate construction methods to achieve the outcome you have in mind and to suit your site’s environmental circumstances. We understand.

The site
It’s vital to us that the home design suits the site - we don’t want to compromise the topography of the land. We’re also interested in siting the home to take advantage of correct solar orientation and to maximise the advantages of cooling cross ventilation. In fact, we are so passionate about bringing the home and its surroundings together to make one statement that, on rare occasions, we’ve actually declined to proceed because we were not happy with the end result.

The mystery of site works
We find the cost to establish your chosen home on your block of land to be the area of greatest consternation. At the Rural Building Company our vast experience of building on rural blocks is your best insurance. We do our utmost to ensure there are no hidden extras. At the very outset we establish how your home best locates on your block of land using a Feasibility, Design and Site Consideration Process.
