The Harvest View came about as a result of many of our customers trying to combine The Cape View into the freeform living area of The Durack. Not all of the results were ideal, so it lead us to design a standard combination. This eventually turned into the display that you see today – The Harvest View.
The central core area of this home is truly awe-inspiring and is based on The Cape View - a home that was on display in Margaret River and which won an HIA South West Golden Key Award, the Display Home of the Year Award (WA), and was a Finalist in the Australian Homes of the Year Competition. The two wings were based on The Durack, another Golden Key winner.
Designed to capture sweeping views and bring them deep into the home, the central core freeform living area achieves this through a spectacular glass prow facade which soars skyward from the centre of the home. A metal truss, part of the architectural feature of the home, supports this eleven-metre span from the prow to the stonework fireplace. Views and access are also obtained via the rear of the home.
The galley kitchen is really well designed and appointed. The placement of the hot plate keeps the chef in direct communication with guests - just like the lifestyle programmes on TV. We even worked with the philosophies of a celebrity chef to achieve the ideal kitchen configuration.
One look and it’s obvious we didn’t skimp on costs in the kitchen: programmable Westinghouse oven with separate grill and a 4 burner hot plate, spacious appliance cupboard, abundance of draws, the list goes on.
The home is split into two living zones: one for the children, one for the adults. Both very separate, but tied together by the large freeform living space in the middle of the home. As we did in The Durack, we converted the lounge to a home theatre – an acknowledgment of where we are moving with technology, and the only modification away from a farmhouse concept. The home office can actually be used externally, if you wished to put an outside door to the room, enabling it to be used as a true farm office. The laundry and toilet are positioned so as to allow access from outside without having to walk through any part of the home, great for those muddy rural blocks.
The children’s wing has bedrooms large enough for queen sized beds and all the electronic equipment that today’s children seem to accumulate. The bathroom and laundry are fitted out with first class appointments and there is ample storage in the vanity cupboards. The oversized shower is enclosed by a semi-framed shower screen while the laundry has a stainless steel inset trough built into the large cupboard.
The adult wing is self contained, very private and can be accessed from the garage. The five metre by four metre master suite has a generously-sized dressing room and an ensuite that features porcelain basins, cistern and shrouded toilet, and frameless showers screens to the shower. Off the bedroom you’ll find the office and home theatre. The latter has been set up to provide the best possible seating and viewing relationship.
In keeping with our environmental concerns we have used a gas boosted Solar Edwards hot water system - extremely fuel efficient and ideal to run on gas bottles. There are two E-Vents to exhaust the hot air out of the roof space, AAA-rated plumbing and, of course, the home is insulated. If the rear of the home is facing true north the verandah at the rear will allow the winter sun in and keep the summer sun out.
The Harvest View can also be adapted to The Park View and illustrates quite well how The Cape View actually looks. The Park View frontage can also be added to The Harvest View. This mix and match flexibility is available in a number of our homes.
